These fast growing Trumpets have fragrant, triple (sometimes double), creamy-yellow trumpet shaped blooms about 8 inches long that face upward and attract hummingbirds and sphynix moths as well as butterflies. The blooms are replaced with interesting, thorny-looking seed pods that reach 2" in diameter and, when ready, pop open to re-seed themselves in your garden. The plant is more of a bush than a tree and reaches 3 feet tall. Perennial in zones 9 and up and usually lives about 4 or 5 years under good conditions. For colder climates, grow as an annual by saving some seeds and re-sow each spring or let the plant re-seed itself! They produce several seed pods and thrive in high heat, particularly in humid areas each plant can have multiple blooms at any given time. They are very rapid growing plants in full sun or partial shade. Can be started in pots or directly in the garden after last frost they also make a wonderful container plant on patios or decks. They are easy to transplant when small, but more difficult once established in the garden. Germination needs patience and heat. Can take up to 21 days for germination even under ideal conditions.
