THE STORY OF ÖKABODE BAMBOO CUTLERY  So how do you get into the bamboo cutlery business?  This business is co-owned by Dave and Jon. Dave is a high school teacher and Jon is his former student. When Jon was in high school he was an eco-warrior. He started a composting program and reduced the school’s waste output by 50% in his final year.  Dave was tired of the waste produced by plastics and had been teaching about the impact it was having on the environment and specifically the oceans. One summer Dave decided to put his teaching into practice to make a product that could make a difference. Dave knew he needed a partner, and after many years, reconnected with Jon who by now was a supply chain professional. To Dave and Jon, nothing was more alluring than producing a product they could be proud of. With sustainability ever top-of-mind, and a shared frustration with the waste from plastic disposables, the idea for Bamboo Cutlery had formed! Have you ever been to dinners where you use 6 different sets of cutlery? To understand what was already on the market, Dave and Jon bought the competitions’ cutlery, conducted extensive tests (and had many many meals) and perfected their product.
