Planting instructions: It is very difficult to grow a lupin from seeds, but if you strictly follow the instructions, you will surely succeed. Before sowing seeds into the soil, they need to be prepared. To do this, carry out scarification. The procedure promotes rapid germination and increased germination. There are several ways to scarify. Mechanical scarification. It consists in machining using sandpaper, river sand, a blade, etc. Take a handful of seeds and grind with coarse river sand or rub between sandpaper sheets. During the procedure, it is important not to damage the fetus. After the end of scarification, the seed material is soaked. Put the seeds in cheesecloth, put in the refrigerator for several minutes, and then pour over boiling water. You can first lower the gauze bag with seeds into boiling water, and then into cold water. Exposure to high and low temperatures gives a positive result. Perform the procedure 2-3 times. Seeds in which the shell has burst are removed from the bag, and the rest continue to process. Check the seeds in the water. The lupine seeds that sink to the bottom are ready to plant. Dig the soil to a depth of 12 to 20 inches (30-50 cm) with a shovel in an area with full sun or light shade. Lay the seeds on top of the soil, spacing the seeds 12 inches (30 cm) apart. Cover the seeds with 1/8 inch (1 cm) of soil and sprinkle water over the planting area. Keep the soil moist throughout the germination process. It takes 15 to 75 days for lupine sprouts to appear when the soil is 55-70 F.
