Own a piece of 20th century American history! The southeastern United States is presented in spectacular mid-century cartography with this National Geographic production. Published in February 1947, this map accompanied the article "Blizzard of Birds: Tortugas Terns," and includes the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

An attractive dark border contrasts with the light, subtle colors of this map. A true exploration into this area of the United States, this map shows with precise detail how railways, highways, rivers and canals connect major cities like Nashville, Atlanta, Birmingham, Jacksonville and more together to help drive the economy of post-war America. This map also includes gorgeous shaded relief of the Appalachian Mountains.

This map is part of a series of six sectional maps of the United States published between 1940 and 1948. It includes insets of the Lower Mississippi, Littoral of Cape Hateras and Norfolk, and the South Carolina and Georgia coasts. Drawn in the Albers Conic Equal-Area projection, this map uses two standard parallels between which distortion is minimized, however scale and shape are not preserved.

A vibrant and unique conversation piece, this map makes a fine companion to the map of the North Central United States published in 1948.
