Made by hand in the USA, this retablo plaque honors San Isidro the laborer. An original design by the artist, her art print is decoupaged upon handcarved pine wood in traditional form. The reverse side includes a hole for hanging and a story of the saint's life. San Isidro (Saint Isidore the Laborer) was a pious farmworker who, with his wife Maria, had one son who died in his youth. Following the tragedy, the couple became chaste so that they might give full attention to doing good works. Isidro shared all he had with both men and animals in need. One winter, after he fed a flock of starving birds, his bags of corn were miraculously refilled. It is said that angels plowed his fields with white oxen while Isidro prayed. Credited with many miracles, San Isidro is recognized as the patron saint of farmers, gardeners, land deals, and agriculture and celebrated in many countries with feasts and field blessings.
