An original design by the artist, her folk-style art print is decoupaged upon carved pine wood in traditional form. The reverse side includes a hole for hanging and a story of the saint's life. St Hildegard von Bingen was born to German nobility in 1098. Sickly from birth, she began having visions at age 3. At age 8, she was enclosed with Blessed Jutta, a Benedictine nun who educated Hildegard for 10 years. At age 18, Hildegard became a Benedictine nun as well. Instructed by God to write down her visions, it took Hildegard 10 years to complete 'Scivias' (Know the Way) and would later also write 'Book of the Merits of Life and Book of Divine Works'. Hildegard also became a composer, whose works of music are still played today. Building upon these creative achievements, Hildegard also supervised the creation of illuminated manuscripts and authored botanic and medicinal works.
