By laying on it you won't worry about damping by wet grass and it is soft and quite comfortable if you lie on the ground. I also got a bag along with this order for carrying the folded blanket around! I would definitely recommend this blanket for picnic!
I bought it specifically because I go to a grassy beach and there tends to be lots of goose poop. This is a good ground cover so my towels and beach supplies don't get nasty. Not sure about washing, probably hose it off and hang it outside to dry.
