Astronomicum Caesareum, one of the most sumptuous works of all Renaissance instructive manuals, explains the use of the astrolabe (for calculating the altitude of stars) and other instruments used for computing planetary positions. The author, court astronomer to Emperor Charles V, also provided new observations on the comet of 1531 (Halley's Comet). Only about forty copies of this work survive, one in The Metropolitan Museum. This pen is based on hand-colored woodcuts in the original work. Brass base metal body with heavy crome plate accents. Gift of Herbert N. Strauss, 1925 The highlight of the pen is the smooth twist-action ballpoint system, activated by turning the tip cone. The Metropolitan Museum of Art logo appears on the cap top. Handsomely packaged in a color coordinated paperboard gift box. Uses the smooth writing Waterford Ballpoint refills. One refill is included with the pen. Limited 1 Year Warranty. Proceeds from the sale of this product are used to support The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
