Lilyturf is a perennial with grass-like evergreen foliage and lilac-purple flowers which produce single-seeded berries on a spike in the fall.
The species is easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Ideal conditions are moist, fertile soils with partial shade.
However, lilyturf tolerates a wide range of light and soil conditions.
Lilyturf is also tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought.
The evergreen foliage often turns brown in late winter; old foliage can be cut back or mowed at a high setting before new shoots appear early spring.

Plants of this genus are known commonly as ladybells.
Most are native to eastern Asia, with a few in Europe.
Many are endemic to either China or Siberia.
These plants are perennial herbs, often with thick, fleshy roots.
The stem usually grows erect from a caudex.
There are usually several basal leaves borne on long petioles.
The leaves on the stem are alternately arranged in most species.
Flowers are solitary or borne in cymes.
The corolla of the flower is bell-shaped, funnel-shaped, or tubular, with five lobes.

Goji, goji berry or wolfberry is native to Asia.
"Wolfberry", a commonly used English name, has unknown origin, perhaps resulting from the Mandarin root, gou, meaning dog or confusion over the genus name, Lycium, which resembles lycos, the Greek word for wolf.
