The size of each Honey Calcium Alginate Dressing care pad is 2" x 2" and each box contains 10 pieces
Benefits
- When wound fluid enters the dressing, the honey is released and the dressing forms a gel
- Remains effective even in the presence of wound fluid, blood and tissue
- Easy to apply, may extend wear time depending on exudate
- Promotes moisture - a balanced environment conducive to wound healing
- Can be used before, during and after application of negative pressure
- Can be used as a cover dressing for skin grafts or substitutes
- Helps stalled wounds progress towards healing
- Osmotic potential draws fluid through the wound to the surface and helps liquefy inactive tissue
- Low pH of 3.5-4.5 - maintaining a more acidic pH in the wound environment helps to maintain wound healing
Indications
Calcium Alginate dressing provides a moist environment conducive to wound healing and is indicated for moderate to heavily exuding wounds such as:
Diabetic foot ulcers
Leg ulcers (venous stasis ulcers, arterial ulcers and leg ulcers ofmixed etiology)
Pressure ulcers/sores (partial and full-thickness)
1st and 2nd-degree partial thickness burns
Donor sites, and traumatic and surgical wounds
Contraindications
Contraindicated in individuals with allergy to honey, third-degree burns or control of heavy bleeding.
Warnings and Precautions
Some patients may notice a slight transient stinging pain. If stinging does not stop or cannot be controlled with analgesics, remove the dressing and clean the area. Exudate may increase due to high osmotic pressure. Manage with an absorbent overlay dressing.
