On January 28 1998 in Indianapolis, IN; the USPS issued the 21st addition to the Black Heritage series, honoring Madam C.J. Walker, African-American businesswoman and philanthropist. She made her fortune by developing and marketing a hugely successful line of beauty and hair products for black women, under the company she founded Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company.
