Linguine is a type of pasta similar to fettuccine and trenette but elliptical in section rather than flat. It is about 4 millimeters in width, which is wider than spaghetti but not as wide as fettuccine. The name linguine means "little tongues" in Italian, where it is a plural of the feminine linguina. Like all long pasta, the Linguine are already known at the time of Cicero and were soon included in the pasta tradition of the "Neapolitan macaroni". In the Campania version, the shape is typically rounded, with a small hump, different from the Ligurian one. They are typically made by the many long pasta factories of the city of Gragnano, where the art of pasta has been handed down from generation since the 1800s, thanks to the centuries-old milling industry and favorable climatic conditions.
