·This strop will not sharpen a blunt knife. Its purpose is different. It’s designed to maintain a razor-sharp edge on your kitchen knives for as long as possible, many weeks and maybe months. ·I came across this idea from my own experience, trying to keep my kitchen knives sharp. A razor-sharp edge only lasts for so long, a few days, perhaps a week before you notice that is not quite as sharp as it used to be. I soon realised that at that point I didn’t have to re- sharpen the edge. I simply had to strop it carefully using honing compound, and I could bring back that razor-sharp edge. ·My solution was to make a strop small enough, and attractive enough that it would fit into a modern kitchen, and so was born the hardwood and leather kitchen strop. ·I also wanted to have a strop that was completely Australian, hand-made in Australia of Australian materials by a real Aussie “bloke.” ·This strop is made of re-cycled red eucalypt hardwood, sanded and polished. To keep the Australian flavour, the leather is kangaroo. ·Unfortunately there is no Australian made honing compound. The best I could find comes from the “other best” country in the world - the US A. Micro Fine green honing compound is the easiest to apply, the most economical and in my opinion the best available for a hand held strop. It rubs on like a crayon; it is not too greasy; the1 oz. bar is large enough to last for years, but small enough to fit unobtrusively into a kitchen drawer. It approximates 8000 grit. ·When you purchase this Aussie Hardwood Kitchen Strop, I will email you a PDF file of notes and photographs showing exactly how to use it.
