This delicate pocket mirror which includes two magnifying mirrors and comes in a velveteen bag features the Austrian symbolist artist Gustav Klimt's masterpiece "The Kiss" (1908) The painting depicts the intimate embrace of a couple through his characteristic Art Nouveau organic ornamentation, where the woman's dress includes circular and delicate colorful patterns which contrast the man's geometric and dark patterning in his clothing. Klimt depicts the couple's intimate moment as being detached from reality which is evidenced in his symbolic use of golf leaf, inspired by Early Byzantine religious art's use of gold. Gustav Klimt is also known to be a part of the "Vienna Secessionist" group, which was conformed by artists who left the Association of Austrian Artists during the early 1890's. The Vienna Secessionists included painters, sculptors and architects and appointed Gustav Klimt as the first president of the secession. Gustav Klimt like many of his contemporaries were affected by the end of the 19th century's Fin de siècle spirit which believed that although society had progressed eventually it lead to the degeneration and decadence of the contemporary society, but at the same time sought the new upcoming period as a new beginning in hope for regeneration. This beautiful mirror homaging Klimt's work "The Kiss" (1908) is made by Parastone, a company dedicated to producing high quality decorative representations of timeless masterpieces for over 50 years.
