Rotala rotundifolia 'Green' (sometimes confused with Rotala indica) is a relatively easy-to-care-for tropical, aquatic plant that originates in Southeast Asia. It features long, thin leaves measuring about 2 to 3 centimeters wide. Unlike other Rotala species, this one is less demanding. Lighting requirements are generally low for this background plant, and will show brighter green coloration when placed under more intense lighting. It does not require CO2 supplementation. This plant can grow quite tall and bushy, as it sends out many side shoots. Regular pruning can keep it under control or it will otherwise reach 1 to 2.5 feet tall. Pruning also ensures that enough light can reach the lower areas of foliage and these cuttings can be easily propagated.
