This is a numbered plate block of 4 stamps as pictured. (plate number may vary from stock picture) ~ On June 3, 1938 in Washington DC, the USPS honored the second president of the United States, John Adams. Adams, being the first Vice President of the United States (1789–1797) for two terms, was elected to one term as President, and was defeated for re-election by his Vice President Thomas Jefferson. The major accomplishment of his presidency was his peaceful resolution to the Quasi-War crisis with France in 1798, and signing the controversial Alien and Sedition Acts. John Adams is considered one of the most influential Founding Fathers of the United States. He and his wife, Abigail Adams, founded an accomplished family line of politicians, diplomats, and historians now referred to as the Adams political family. Adams was the father of John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States. John Adams was born on October 30, 1735 and died on July 4, 1826 at the age of 90.
