Jell-O Package Design Evolution 1845 -- Peter Cooper, inventor of the famous locomotive “Tom Thumb” obtains the first patent for a gelatin dessert. 1899 -- Wait sells Jell-O gelatin business to Orator F. Woodward of the Genesee Pure Food Company for $450. 1906 -- Sales reach nearly $1,000,000. Orator F. Woodward dies and is succeeded by his widow Cora Talmadge Woodward as president of the Genesee Pure Food Company. 1908 -- The Jell-O Girl first appears on packaging. 1923 -- On November 5th, The Jell-O Company, Inc. is organized and takes over the assets of Genesee Pure Food Company without a change in management. 1932 -- “New Jell-O” is introduced which is made without boiling water.
