In 2007, while working at a production office in France, a young up and coming writer/director came across an early draft for a comedy about Jean-Claude Van Damme. A lifelong fan of his growing up, Mabrouk El Mechri convinces producers to let him rewrite and direct his own take on the concept. The result is JCVD. After reading the script and meeting El Mechri, Van Damme immediately signs on and gives the young director his full trust. Mabrouk s mission becomes to turn his childhood idol into the hero of an atypical film meshing comedy and thriller, in the footsteps of the great American cinema of the 1970s.
