FIGHT FIRE St. Florian, a highly ranked Roman commander in the are of current day Linz, Austria, during the late third century, organized, trained, and led firefighting brigades. As a result, he is the Patron Saint of Firefighters and chimney sweeps who protect us from fire. He was also martyred for his faith by ultimately being thrown into a river with a stone around his neck. For those reasons, his powerful intercession is invoked by those seeking protection from fire and water, particularly as they relate to homes.
