St. Expedite was a Roman soldier in the fourth century. He discovered Christianity and considered converting. It was that day when the devil appeared to him in the form of a crow. He tried to persuade him to wait until the next day. Instead St. Expedite took action that day so not to procrastinate. Because of that he is pictured with his foot on the crow to crush the devil. The crow is pictured with a banner in his beak with the latin word "Cras" "which means "tomorrow". The crow was wanting him to procrastinate and put off the decision. St. Expedite is pictured holding up a cross with the latin word “Hodie” which translates to "today." It might be the origin of "never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." The palm branch he is holding in his had is the symbol of martyrdom. Some believe that he was martyred on April 19. He was beheaded. Because of the life he lived, he is known to help with those who struggle with procrastination. He loved speed, and so if you need a solution to a problem quickly, you might want to pray and ask for his help. Some believe that he also is instrumental with legal issues, financial problems or job hunting There is a tradition for some to have an altar or special place with his image or statue, a red candle, a glass of water, red roses, and an offering of pound cake and nickels or pennies. He is a favorite saint in both New Orleans and Brazil
