When it was discovered that he was a Christian, he was tied to a tree and shot with multiple arrows, and left for dead. He was found still alive by a widow who nursed him back to health. Fully recovered, he accused the emperor of cruelty to Christians. Upon the emperors orders he was beaten to death. He is the patron saint of athletes and archors.
