CATOOSA COUNTY SHERIFF 1979 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM & 1971 DODGE CHALLENGER * Hot Pursuit Dioramas Series 6 * Greenlight Collectibles 2012 Limited Edition 1:64 Scale Die-Cast Vehicle Set. Catoosa County, Georgia is located on the Georgia - Tennessee border and is part of the Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan area. The county seat of Catoosa is Ringgold, GA. However, Catoosa County can really be identified as Trans Am Country! One man can be noted for this recognition - J.D. Stewart, Sheriff of Catoosa County between the late 1950's to his death in 1986. National exposure was brought to the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department when Sheriff Stewart added eight Pontiac Trans-Am patrol cars to his fleet in 1978 and on into the mid 1980's. The cars and department were featured in the the television show Real People and Car and Driver Magazine. At the time, Trans Ams were known and law-breaking rebellious cars thanks to the notoriety from films like Smokey and the Bandit. Sheriff Stewart dismissed this stereotype by adopting the car to represent the other side of the law. While most law enforcement departments were working with big, heavy Ford and Chevrolet square cars, the guys from Catoosa County were zipping down county roads and highways in hot pursuit of justice.
