They have been producing premium quality artistsâ vine charcoal from willow grown on the Somerset Levels Stoke Saint Gregory in Southwest England for over thirty years. Plantation willow cultivation is part of the rich heritage of the Somerset Levels stretching back for hundreds of years. A special combination of unique environmental conditions and tried and trusted traditions enable the Coate family to produce a truly unique fine art charcoal. Since Coateâs produces and processes their own raw materials they are able to select only the best willow rods ensuring consistently high quality charcoal. Coateâs Willow Charcoal is non-compressed and burned from rods left in their raw round shape and diameter.
