The Gadsden "Don't Tread On Me" 12" x 6" Black Plastic License Plate Frame comes with pre-drilled mounting holes and fits on most standard vehicles. The frame is black, with yellow "DON'T TREAD ON ME" on top and "GADSDEN" written on bottom of the frame. The Gadsden flag was designed by American general and politician Christopher Gadsden (1724-1805), in 1775. The first recorded mention of the future Gadsden flag's symbolism is when the first Marines enlisted in the city of Philadelphia, they carried drums painted yellow, depicting a coiled rattlesnake with thirteen rattles, and the motto "Don't Tread on Me." Ben Franklin said of the rattlesnake "She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage.-As if anxious to prevent all pretensions of quarreling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenseless animal; and even when those weapons are shown and extended for her defense, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal:-Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of stepping on her." He believed it was the perfect representation of American qualities and beliefs. The flag today is often used by Libertarians, Conservatives, Tea Party members, Gun owners and many other groups or individuals concerned with preserving their civil liberties and exercising the rights observed in the Constituition. Millions of Patriots have given their lives to defend the rights this flag represents. Show everyone that you refuse to be subjugated in any way with this Gadsden "Don't Tread On Me" 12" x 6" Black Plastic License Plate Frame.
