The flower resembles a large shrimp in shape; hence, the common name.  Shrimp Plants work great in mixed perennial beds, borders, pots, or any other spot where you want a mass of continuous color.  The bloom cycle is long, beginning in the early spring and lasting until early winter in warm climates.  The long lasting flowers lend great interest, texture and make a nice potted accent plants for the porch, patio or poolside.  They can be acclimated to grow indoors, however, supplemental light is often required for flowering.
