Cosmos are the go to garden filler in any condition. As the seeds do not need light to germinate, they can be sown directly or covered with 1/4 inch of soil.
Give the plants occasional deep watering. If blooming begins to decrease, cut the plant back to 12 inches for new growth, more blossoms will come in about 4 weeks.
Cosmos generate large amounts of seed for the following year if you let the flower stay on and go to seed heads. Collect and plant the following spring.
