Weston’s Fantastic Finger Guides - A Major Beginner Guide starts the beginner with just one scale. They start learning songs and the musical alphabet from day one. Triangles stand for the open strings and squares the notes that are fingered. Through experience, the inventor/violin teacher discovered that beginners are most successful when they are given concrete musical information as found on the Fantastic Finger Guides. Finger tapes are abstract and do not give any musical information. The A Major Beginner Finger Guide works with the Suzuki Method Book 1. Purchase the D Major Beginner Finger Guide off of Amazon for use with all other method books. Beginners use the FINGER NUMBER TRAINER on side of neck while in guitar position to learn their finger numbers before moving their instrument to their shoulder. They can both see their fingers and the finger number reference on the side of the instrument to set correct spacing and form a relaxed hand while playing (see photos for details), Decal goes on easily and comes off with no gooey mess. Decal is not reusable. The placement of squares have been tested on lots of instruments for accuracy. The inventor spent 2 years developing and testing the guide in his own music classroom with beginner students. He found more students continued playing and grew musically smarter than when he used finger tapes for the 10 years leading up to his invention. Once the beginner has become confident in knowing his or her notes with the A Major scale, they should remove the decal. The fingerboard map will be in their visual memory for a reference and they will not need the guide again on their instrument. Then purchase the All Notes Fantastic Finger Guide off of Amazon in order to learn intermediate skills including all chromatic notes, sharps, flat, naturals and how to play in different keys.
