This is a block of 6 stamps. Issued on September 27, 1996 in St. Paul, Minnesota the USPS commemorated novelist and short story writer Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, an American writer of novels and short stories, whose works are evocative of the Jazz Age, a term he coined himself. He was widely regarded as one of the twentieth century's greatest writers, considered a member of the "Lost Generation" of the twenties. He finished four novels, including The Great Gatsby, with another published posthumously, and wrote dozens of short stories that treat themes of youth and promise along with despair and age. F Scott Fitzgerald became the 15th addition to the Literary Arts Series. The stamp shows a portrait of the writer. In the distance is a small green light, inspired by the light at the end of Daisy Buchanan's dock in Fitzgerald's famous novel "The Great Gatsby." The 23 cent denomination was intended to pay the additional postage on first-class mail exceeding one ounce, in 1996.
