Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) lure in their prey with their sweet smell. The tiny hairs on the outside of the trap are triggered by the insect and cause the trap to snap shut. These unique plants are natively found in the Carolinas in boggy areas of nature in moist, acidic soil in full sun. They are now an endangered species. Seeds in our packs were specifically grown for the purposes of seed collection on farms. These seeds are very small. You may want to empty them on a creased piece of paper to handle. Use only DISTILLED water to water your Fly Traps. You may use collected rainwater, but you CANNOT use tap, spring, or well water. Soil should stay moist without becoming overly soggy for optimal germination. Warmth will help seeds sprout, but container should not be in direct sun. Growing and Care: Promptly remove any dead leaves from plants. Fly Traps are perennials and need a dormant period each year. When they die back, remove the dead foliage and place plant in refrigerator for 2 months uncovered. Water only once every three weeks when dormant. When you remove, add water and place in bright, indirect light. Each year they will get larger and larger after this process. Do not trigger plants and make them close without food as this will kill the trap. You can feed your flytrap tiny amounts of cooked meat if you want to see them eat. Only feed 1 or 2 traps at a time.
