A gorgeous ornamental tree that grows up to 15-30 feet tall and can be planted in the spring or fall.

The hard coat of redbud seed requires both soaking and cold stratification. Place seeds in hot water and leave them soaking in the same water for 48 hours. Then drain them, place them between a damp paper towel, fold it, place them in a zip-lock bag and keep them in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 weeks at around 41°F. Instead of stratification, you can sow seeds in the fall outside for them to overwinter. Plant ¼ - ½ inch deep in individual small containers filled with moist potting soil, place on a heat mat and arrange growing light for 14 hours a day. Transplant seedlings outside in May-June into sandy, well-drained, and moist soil in the area with full to partial sun. Water regularly.
