Black Mulberry is a medium-sized long-lived deciduous tree growing 20 to 30 feet high and considered an ornamental fruit tree with wide-spreading branches. In spring the tree produces little catkins which ripen in early summer to dark black, delicious plump fruits. Mulberry is known for producing fruit for hundreds of years. Mulberry trees are wind-pollinated and can set fruit without any pollination. Cross-pollination is not necessary. Mulberries prefer deep, rich soil, but will tolerate thin gravelly soil, rocky slopes, and dry sites. Mulberries prefer full sun, but otherwise, are one of the least "fussy" of the fruit trees. Zones: 5 - 9 Water: Moderate Light: Full Soak in water 24 hours. Mix seeds in damp potting soil and store them in a plastic bag for 8 weeks in the fridge. Sprinkle seed mix onto damp soil, cover with plastic, and provide light. Seeds direct sown in spring will germinate the following spring. Seeds are for the current and following growing seasons. Growing instructions and plant Images are included on the seed envelope. Seeds are stored in environmental conditions that promote seed life (Dark/Dry/Cool).
