Dieffenbachia Tropic Snow, or Tropic Snow Dumb Cane, is a robust tropical plant native to Brazil. It has long stalks and large green leaves with bold variegation in white and cream colors. Tropic Snow is one of the largest species in the Dieffenbachia family. It can grow up to 6 feet in height. As a beautiful ornamental houseplant, Tropic Snow is also very useful in purifying and detoxifying indoor air environments. Tropic Snow has medium light requirements. It thrives in bright indirect, diffused sunlight or partial shade. Avoid harsh direct sunlight. Tropic Snow needs light watering. Only water when the top 2'' of the soil is dry. Water thoroughly and let excess water drains well to avoid root rot. Start with watering once per week and monitor the soil to decide on your schedule. This plant needs less watering in winter. This plant prefers soils that can retain some moisture but still drain well. You can add some peat moss and perlite to regular potting mix soil to increase aeration and drainage. This plant should be kept in temperatures between 60°F-80°F and a high humidity level (at least 60% all year round). Use a humidifier and mist your plant when the weather is dry, especially during winter. This plant should be fertilized once per month during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer. This plant contains calcium oxalate and can be toxic to animals so keep it out of reach of curious children and pets.
