Lapis is a highy sought after stone. It has been mined were ever it can be found since since before 700 BC. It was traded from Afghanistan to Egpyt to even Europe. Ancient texts referenced Lapis as sapphires which is not a reference to todays sapphires. It comes in a very rich blue color that makes it ideal for jewelry. It was often ground up in to powder for use as pigment in dyes and paints. This use was only for the rich as lapis is more expensive than most of its counterparts.
