All Council axe heads are drop forged from high quality tool steel. Top quality axe from Council Tools. Council has been making hand tools since 1886, and they set the standard for quality and design. Cutting edges are then heat treated and tempered. The poll and eye walls are not hardened and remain in the as forged condition. The final sharpening of the cutting edge is by hand using fine grit abrasives. 2.25 lb BOY'S AXE WITH 28 inch CURVED HANDLE A "mid" sized tool. Dayton pattern originated from the Dayton, Ohio, area.This axe comes with a curved 28"" American Hickory handle, which is short enough to carry easily in the woods, but long enough to give you decent swinging power. The axe head is drop forged and tempered to Rc 48-55 which exceeds ANSI standards, and painted with red enamel and clear lacquer to deter rust. Hickory handle is dried below 10% moisture content during installation to minimize shrinkage and loosening. NOTE: The Boy's axe is made with a Dayton style head, which is perfect for small scale chopping and felling duties.
