The location and altitute to which it is grown (1200 - 1700 meters) lend heavily to the intense flavor. Costa Rican coffees are prized for their high notes and their smooth body. Coffee should not be stored in the freezer, contrary to popular belief, as it leads to moisture extracting the flavor of the coffee.
