Henna is the Arabic name for the Lawsonia Inermis shrub. It reaches a height of 2 to 5 m and grows in the Middle East. The leaves of this shrub are dried and pulverized to make Henna powder. A reddish dye called Henna is extracted from the plant’s dried and pulverized leaves. The plant grows in humid areas of North Africa and South Asia. Henna is very popular with women in Islamic countries and they use it to dye their hair, nails, fingers and feet. An essential oil extracted from its small white-yellowish flowers has been used over the centuries to make perfume. Henna contains the following substances: tannins, flavanoids, triterpens, lipids, sugars and lawsone. Henna has the following properties: astringent, strengthening and sedative. Henna is used in medicine to treat burns, inflammations and mouth sores. At Corpore Sano we use Henna extract as a semi-permanent hair dye as it does not damage the hair and leaves it smooth.
