The Tomatoberry tomato plant is a hybrid cherry tomato with a strawberry like shape to it. They are a little bigger than your run of the mill cherry tomato, at 1-1.5 inches long and 2 ounces each, but the flavor is anything but ordinary. While their strawberry shape makes them attractive and noticeable, the super sweet taste and aroma, and meaty, juicy interior will keep you coming back again and again. Their deep red color and firm texture make them a wonderful addition to salads and veggie trays, though they are really just as wonderful picked and eaten fresh off the vine. Its super sweetness also makes it great for cooking, grilling and roasting. What a great addition to any summer meal. Tomatoberry is a prolific producer, growing clusters of 25-30 tomatoes on each vine. With the plants averaging 5 feet in height, that is an abundance of tomatoes. Place plants 24 inches apart in a full sun location. A rich well-draining soil and regular watering of 1-1.5 inches of water weekly are needed for these heavy producers. Like all cherry tomatoes you can grow them in large containers and pots, but they will only grow as large as their environment and you have to water more often as containers dry out quickly When planting these and all other tomatoes, plant to a soil depth just beneath the first set of leaves. That first set of leaves (called cotyledon-which means the embryonic first leaves) will eventually fall off. Roots will form along the buried stem, establishing a stronger root, thus a stronger plant. Don’t water too late in the evening. You want the plants to dry thoroughly before night. Too many problems with fungus start when you continuously water tomatoes late in the evening. The plants will reach up to 5 feet tall and staking, caging or fencing is needed for plant support. Expect harvest in 80 days (from seeding) continuing on to the fall
