The Super Chili Pepper plant is a very productive, semi compact plant that produces upward-facing cone shaped chili peppers with a very spicy flavor. Because of its attractive colorful appearance, Super Chili peppers are great for ornamental use as well, either in the garden or in patio containers. The Super Chili’s two inch peppers are as colorful as lit Christmas tree lights as many of the upward growing peppers stand out above the mounded two foot tall foliage. The fruits turn from pale green to orange to red with all shades in between. The peppers can be used in any stage of its’ growth from green to red and can be use fresh from the garden or dried for later use. This is one zesty hot chili pepper, with a Scoville heat rating of 37,500-50,000. A variety bred in the USA, it is a former All American Selection Pepper Variety Winner! The Super Chili Pepper is best used in Thai, Szechuan, and Asian dishes that call for spicy hot peppers Plant peppers in a full sun location 18-24 inches apart, in rich well-draining soil. Mulching is recommended to help retain soil moisture and prohibit weed growth. The plants can reach up to 2 feet in height if not pruned, and do like some fertilizing. You can mix 2 tablespoons of Epsom Salts in a gallon of water and spray liberally on the plant leaves at bloom time. This will provide a good boost to magnesium to the plant and net you a stronger plant with an even better yield. These peppers will be ready for harvest in 70-80 days (from seeding). The peppers can be used fresh or dried, but remember to use gloves when handling these and all hot peppers as the natural oils from the plant can burn unprotected skin. It is also helpful to wear goggles when handling peppers with high Scoville ratings.
