The Habanero Pepper Plant is an ancient chili pepper dating back to over 8500 years ago in Mexico. Also called Capsicum chinense "Caribbean Red". It is counted as one of the hottest chili peppers around with a Scoville Heat rating ranging from 100,000 to 350,000. The little orange peppers look harmless, but beware when cooking with them and use sparingly, as you can always add more if needed. The Habanero has a smoky citrus like flavor and floral aroma that make it irresistible to cooks as a popular ingredient in sauces and salsas. The blocky wrinkled peppers grow to about 2" long and turn from silvery green to a bright orange when ripe. Habaneros are sometimes placed in tequila or mescal bottles, particularly in Mexico, for a period ranging from several days to several weeks, to make a spiced version of the drink. Remember to use caution when handling these and other hot peppers. Use gloves to protect your hands and face from the searingly hot oils from the pepper plant. Place plants 18-24 inches apart in a full sun location. Habaneros need a normal-loamy soil that is well draining. Once the plants are established only water when the soil is dry as Habaneros do not tolerate wet soil and roots. The plants will grow 2-4 ½ feet tall and produce mature peppers 76-88 days from seeding. They will continue to produce peppers until late fall and strong frost. If container planted you can winter plant indoors, though keep plants away from children and pets.Non–GMO Plants. All Clovers Garden Vegetable Plants and Herbs are Non-GMO.
