It is part of the Holiday Celebrations series. Cinco de Mayo, a holiday commemorating Mexico's miraculous defeat of an invading French army on May 5, 1862, is a colorful celebration of Mexican history and heritage. It is a day when Mexican people, living in their homeland or the United States, express pride in their country's accomplishments.
