A fast grower, the new shoots can grow up to 12 in. per day (30 cm). Giant Bamboo flowers approximately once every 40 years. Easy to grow, this clump-forming bamboo makes a gorgeous architectural specimen of breathtaking stature. It is also excellent for construction, furniture, food and crafts. It can be grown successfully in lowlands on rich loam or alluvial soils, where humidity is high. Hardy to 25ºF (-4ºC).
