Chicory is a native plant in the Mediterranean region which belongs to the dandelion family. It is also known as a blue daisy, blue dandelion, blue sailors, blueweed, bunk, coffee weed. Chicory may be cultivated for its leaves, usually eaten raw as salad leaves. The root has been cultivated in Europe as a coffee substitute. To prepare a beverage, take 1 tsp of ground Chicory Root with 1 tbsp of ground coffee. Simply mix in a cup with 200 ml hot water and let it steep for a few minutes. You can add some milk or cream. To prepare a decoction, take 2 flat tsp of Chicory Root and pour 300 ml of lukewarm water. Heat and cook covered for 3-5 minutes. Set aside for a quarter of an hour and then strain.
