Product Description Featuring: Gerry and the Pacemakers, Peter and Gordon, Manfred Mann, The Kinks, The Yardbirds Amazon.com The opportunity to check out a handful of rarely seen, actual live performances by some fine British bands is the main appeal of The British Invasion, one of five discs included in the Rock n' Roll Goldmine boxed set. Hosted by Casey Kasem, who provides introductions and trivia, the 40?minute program contains live clips of the Kinks ("You Really Got Me"), Procol Harum ("A Salty Dog," with Robin Trower on guitar), and Traffic (the original Steve Winwood-Chris Wood-Jim Capaldi lineup does a rousing version of "40,000 Headmen") that are just about worth the price of admission by themselves. The pickings are slimmer elsewhere; additional clips, many of them lip-synced, range from curious (it's cool to see Jimmy Page as a member of the Yardbirds, but they're miming to the recording of "Heart Full of Soul," which featured Jeff Beck, not Page, on guitar) to lightweight (like Peter and Gordon's "World Without Love," written by Lennon & McCartney, or Gerry and the Pacemakers' "How Do You Do It," originally recorded but rejected by the Beatles) to merely laughable (the Troggs' "Wild Thing," a dumb classic and an even dumber "video"). --Sam Graham
