James Montgomery Flagg (1877 - 1960) was an American artist and illustrator. He is most famous for his War effort posters but he also work for magazines, did cartoons, and even paintings. A recruitment poster by Flagg far exceeds desirable and popular exponentially. Flagg masterfully depicts a Doughboy holding his rifle, an American Flag, and a Laurel wreath (for Victory), as many onlookers stare at him in awe. This poster would have illustrated to the young man that enlisted men received respect and admiration everywhere they went. Noticeable are Flagg's characteristic bright colors and patriotic flare. Flagg would produce over 45 individual world War I posters.
