A recruitment poster for the U. S. Navy showing Lady Liberty (Columbia) welcoming a new sailor. Leyendecker was commissioned to do posters in WWI and WWII by the us government. J. C. Leyendecker (1874-1951) was Dutch, but born in Germany, and moved to the us at age 8. Studied art in Chicago and because one of America's favorite illustrators.
