British rail travel poster -travel cheaply by LNER.A Mouse plays the piano as a duck sings. This poster was produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to East coast resorts in 1933. It is the first one in a set of six humorous posters with the caption do like to be beside - the drier side! It shows a Cartoon of a duck in a Pierrot costume singing while standing next to the silhouette of a grand piano being played by a Mouse. The complete set was exhibited in the 1933 LNER poster art exhibition at the new Burlington galleries in London. The artist Frank newbould (1887-1951), studied at Bradford college of art and joined the War office in 1942. He designed posters for the LNER, GWR (great Western Railway), Orient line and Belgian railways.
