Brahms- Complete Songs Vol.4

With this release, pianist Graham Johnson's latest project for Hyperion, the complete songs of Johannes Brahms, reaches its fourth volume. Brahms may be considered a giant of the Romantic era, but his songs and vocal works are far less familiar to listeners than much of his other music. However, there is so much to discover and enjoy in the beautiful, often elegiac melodies and characteristic piano writing present in his songs. The present recording features the songs of Op 94, as well as the Vier ernste Gesange of Op 121. The singer is bass-baritone Robert Holl, who has been widely acclaimed for his live performances and recordings and is considered one of the most profound artists of the genre.
