Bistort is a flowering plant native to Europe and north and west Asia. It is also known as common Bistort, European Bistort or meadow Bistort, snakeroot, snake-root, snakeweed and Easter-ledges. To make a decoction, add 1 tsp of Bistort Rhizome to one cup (200 ml) of water and bring it to boil. Cook it for about 10 to 15 minutes and then strain the liquid. It can also be used externally in the form of a mouthwash. To prepare a gargle, use 1-2 tbsp of Bistort Rhizome to 200 ml of water. Boil it for 8-10 minutes. It should then stand and brew for 5 hours. After this time strain the mixture and use.
