BURLINGTON NORTHERN SANTA FE In the 1950s, FGE started to build 40’ and 50’ insulated box cars for lease to its member railroads. Sometimes called “grocery cars", these box cars carried a wide variety of reporting marks. These cars lacked refrigerating equipment but were insulated well enough to keep loads cool even on warm days.
