About the Actor Vern Juran was born was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota. Vern's father played guitar and bought him a Harmony guitar when Vern was ten years old. Vern spent hours listening and playing along with the Ventures and other early guitar groups. In his teens Vern began playing in various garage bands and took lessons from various local guitar teachers. Upon graduating from high school and technical college Vern continued performing with local dance bands and began giving private guitar lessons. Vern continued teaching for twelve years while developing his skills as a guitar and violin repairer. The years spent with beginning guitar students allowed Vern to develop the various methodsand teaching skills which are now presented in Mel Bay's "Anyone Can Play" video series. Vern's first video, Anyone Can Play Guitar, was introduced in the mid '80s. Vern's goal was that this video would become the "Mel Bay Book One" of guitar teaching videos. Ironically this goal was realized when William Bay, then-vice president of Mel Bay Publications, Inc., saw the video and secured distribution rights for the product. Vern has released several guitar teaching videos since then including Anyone Can Play Guitar Volume 2 and other Anyone Can Play videos on Note-Reading Guitar, Rock Guitar, Blues Guitar, Electric Blues Guitar, and Praise Guitar. Vern is currently residing in Austin, Texas where he has found an abundant source of his favorite music, the blues.
